CHATHAM, Mass. (WHDH) — A family watched as a great white shark went on a feeding frenzy off the coast of Chatham, and caught it all on camera.
Vacationing in Chatham, the Mottur family still can’t believe what they saw on Monomoy Island as they were headed out for the day of whale watching.
“My daughter’s up on the fly bridge up there and she shouted out, ‘shark! I see a shark fin,’” said Peter Mottur.
The great white shark, that experts say was tagged earlier this summer, was eating a seal not far from the beach. The shark then circled the Mottur’s 35-foot fishing boat before disappearing into the ocean.
“No [I could not believe what I was seeing] I was scared most of the time,” said 11-year-old Abigail Mottur. “Yeah, it was kind of scary watching the shark eating a seal.”
“It was fascinating to be able to look down and see that huge animal right there that most people never have a chance to see,” said Libby Mottur.
It was a sight they won’t soon forget.
“It was thrilling, but also a little overwhelming too,” said Peter Mottur.
