BARNSTABLE, Mass. (WHDH) — Former Massachusetts gubernatorial candidate, Christy Mihos, appeared in a Cape Cod courtroom Thursday to face charges of attacking his estranged wife.

Mihos pleaded not guilty and his attorney said Mihos is in fact the victim.

“I think it’s to gain an advantage in the divorce case. I think she’s an angry woman,” said Mihos’ attorney, Robert Langlois.

Earlier this year, Andrea Mihos testified that Christy shoved her in their West Yarmouth home in July.

Police reports also state they got into an altercation while in Florida when Andrea confronted her husband about his “addiction to hiring prostitutes, strippers and porn stars for sex.” Mihos’ attorney denied those claims but did admit that Mihos paid for dinner with women only.

“She has made allegations and we contend that it is not true. There’s no sex involved, there’s no payment for sex involved," said Langlois.

Defense lawyers said Andrea Mihos has control over the family finances and is the one spending the couple’s money.

Police reports state Andrea was concerned for her husband’s mental health because of his losing political campaigns and failing businesses.

“He knows in his heart that he’s innocent and he will have to see the process through. He believes in the process,” said Langlois.
