NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WHDH) — Buzzards Bay is no stranger to flooding — and Sandy is bringing rising concerns to people in the area who are doing their best to prepare for what the storm may bring.

From her living room in New Bedford, Maria Andray gave 7News a look at the briefcase she's already packed up; it’s filled with important documents in case she has to get out in a hurry by the time sandy comes knocking.

Andray, who lives along the water, has been through monster storms and knows the drill. And she's not alone — at the Home Depot in Dartmouth, any prepping for the holidays has been interrupted by the hurricane.

Just ask Suzanne Lanagan — her shopping carriage was loaded with batteries, flashlights and a gas can.

“I don’t like hurricanes but we live up here, so what are you going to do? You gotta get ready,” said Lanagan.

Assistant manager Mike Bowles says they've sold out of generators; 60 in the past few days — and now they're scrambling to get more ahead of the storm.

“Right now, we’re working with our logistics team to try to get them from other parts of the country up this direction,” Bowles said.

The race is on to get ready for whatever Sandy has up her sleeve. Some buildings are already boarded up.

Maria Andray says she won't be putting plywood on the windows but if she's told she has to get out, she's ready to go.

“Been here for 35 years. Nothing ever happened, so keep our fingers crossed,” said Andray.
