HYANNIS, Mass. (WHDH) — Winter weather moved into New England overnight. The Boston area was able to avoid the worst of the snowfall.

The majority of the snow pushed to the south. Those waking up on Cape Cod did not get a lot of snow. Areas like Hyannis were coated with fresh, powdery snow that was light and reminiscent of the ski slopes.

Snow covered branches show that between three and four inches fell, but commuter shouldn’t have to worry too much. The light snow will brush off cars easily and even though there was not a lot of snow the plows were busy. For the most part the roads were plowed. Some snow may slow traffic a bit, but parking lots were cleared. Though crews worked overnight to clear the roads, the City of Boston tweeted a warning to pedestrians, bikers and drivers to remain cautious and pay attention to narrowed roadways during the commute.

By early morning the flakes had slowed in most parts of eastern New England and stopped altogether further west.
