SWANSEA, Mass. (WHDH) — An officer faced charges in Swansea.
He was arrested following a crash last month.
Lieutenant Eduard Raposo was charged with operating under the influence and leaving the scene of property damage.
Swansea Police said Lieutenant Raposo initially drove away from the responding officer following the crash January 12th.
The officer said Raposo then had a hard time standing and slurred his speech.
The police report stated: "Mr. Raposo stated he had been drinking and (expletive) up. As Mr. Raposo spoke he was hard to understand because he was slurring his words."
Officers claimed Raposo became irate, saying, "I'm an (expletive) cop.
Can’t you give me a ride home?"
The police chief said the department will decide on any possible discipline after Raposo's case goes through the court system.
"Off-duty behavior concerns us, concerns any police chief. We are held to a higher standard, I believe we should be a higher standard so certainly off-duty conduct is something that is on our radar,” said Swansea Police Chief George Arruda.
The Fall River Herald reported Raposo was arrested for touching himself inappropriately at a rest stop in Swansea in 2005.
Those charges were later dropped.
