OAK BLUFFS, Mass. (WHDH) — The first couple hit the town Sunday night during their vacation on the Vineyard. The President and First Lady Michelle Obama went for dinner at The Sweet Life Café and a lot of people came out in hopes to catch a glimpse of the pair.

President Obama also played a round of golf Sunday morning at the Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs with his assistant, the White House chef and a Wall Street consultant.

But a cardboard cutout in town is likely as close as some folks fear, they'll get to the president.

“If we see him that would be great but when I saw the figure I thought it would be great to take a picture just in case we don't see him,” said Julee Wilson who hopes to see the president.

While some have complained about traffic issues with the closing of a main street near the first family's rental, many have used the sight of congestion to plot a sighting.

“There was a bunch of traffic and everyone thought maybe Obama was here, but it was actually a draw bridge up,” said Tamara Wyzanski.

However some merchants said they have no complaints about the foot traffic in their stores. Where there are no shortages of Obama related gear, store owners like Roger Schilling said it's like a mini stimulus package.

“The president comes here on vacation, it’s a pleasure to have him and his family on the Vineyard. Plus it helps our economy for sure,” said Schilling owner of C'est La Vie.

As the motorcade rolled toward their Chilmark home the only agitation so far has been about the inconveniences, but most are excited to be vacationing with the first family.

“I think it's amazing. This is my happy place and I'm glad the president finds happiness here as well and wants to come back every year,” Wilson said.
