BOURNE, Mass. (WHDH) — The government shutdown is hitting close to home for a Cape Cod man who suffers from bile duct cancer.
Leo Finn was planning on being a part of a clinical trial that was supposed to start next week, but now the whole plan is on hold.
“I'm mad that the government can walk away from people and we don't matter is what it seems,” Finn said.
The 48-year-old has been undergoing chemotherapy for months, with no avail.
“I want to see my daughter walk down the aisle, I want to see my kids grow up to be great citizens,” Finn said.
The Dana Farber Cancer Institute helped Finn get involved in the trial and now they say they can’t follow their original plan.
"…due to the shutdown, new trials cannot be opened at this moment using the existing regulations. We will advocate for any patients who may be affected, and will explore all available conventional and investigational treatment options with them," a spokesperson said.
