BOSTON (WHDH) — A judge unsealed several documents filed by suspected Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s defense team, including a request for them to take pictures of their client.
The documents detail the night the 20-year-old suspect was taken into custody. He was rushed to a local hospital to be treated for serious injuries. After he was stabilized, Tsarnaev was transferred to a medical center at Fort Devens Federal Prison, where he remains.
The defense team asked the court for permission to take pictures of Tsarnaev’s injuries. Typically, it’s just prison employees who are allowed to do that.
The defense also wanted to prevent prosecutors from looking at any photos that were taken at the time Tsarnaev was brought into the facility.
The paperwork detailed Tsarnaev’s injuries. His doctor said he had several gunshot wounds, eye injuries and serious injuries to his left hand.
The defense also asked for access to the daily logs from the prison, including the suicide-watch logs and all the psychological files on their client.
All of the defense’s requests were granted.
