Mayor Lisa Wong of Fitchburg has called for a community-wide prayer vigil for a missing five-year-old boy and encouraged families to write messages for him and his family.

The city stated that it will be providing angels at the municipal offices for people to write messages and prayers for Jeremiah Oliver, who was last seen in September.

“We’ve come up with a Jeremiah Angel project where people can write down their own messages and we put there together and hopefully, because there is still hope, we can give these to Jeremiah one day, or his family,” Wong said.

Two churches are holding prayer services. The Elm Street Community Church is holding a service Thursday afternoon and the New Creation Community Church has one Thursday evening.

“We feel that there’s power in prayer so this gives people the opportunity to come and to pray for God’s wisdom that he would lead to a solution in this situation that Jeremiah would be found,” Elm Street Community Church pastor Steve Mayo said.

The mother of the missing boy and her boyfriend appeared in court on Tuesday. The mother has been uncooperative and is expected to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

Elsa Oliver was held on $100,000 cash bail and will be required to wear a GPS monitoring bracelet if posted. She is being held on a contempt of court charge for not providing authorities with the whereabouts of her son. She has also been charged with reckless endangerment of a child and being an accessory after the fact.

Her boyfriend, Alberto Sierra, is being held without bail.
