Driver hits pole after looking at GPS in Wellesley

Posted: Updated:

WELLESLEY, Mass. (WHDH) -- Saturday night a young driver was visiting a friend when he crashed into a telephone pole and his car erupted in flames.

Police say the man was unfamiliar with the area and was looking at his GPS when a deer ran in front of the car. The driver then swerved to avoid the animal but crashed into a telephone pole.

He was able to get out of the vehicle without serious injury.

Neighbors said when they went outside after the crash what they saw was abnormal for the quiet neighborhood.

“Unbelievable, it’s something you don’t see very day especially on Suffolk Road,” one neighbor said.

Police say the driver was not under the influence at the time of the crash. He was hospitalized but has since been released.
