BROOKLINE, Mass. (WHDH) — John Beyers appeared in court Monday after allegedly exposing himself to children at a library.

His attorney asked to have him evaluated for competency by a doctor.

According to the sex offender registry, Beyers, a level three offender, has been convicted nine times since 2001 for open and gross lewdness.

Brookline Police arrested Beyers last week after he was accused of exposing himself inside the Coolidge Corner library on two different days.

“They were able to utilize the evidence and they made an identification, leading to the arrest of John Beyers,” said Lt. Philip Harrington, Brookline Police.

Police say camera footage was used to link their suspect to the alleged crime.

Back in 2010 Beyers was charged for exposing himself at another Brookline library. That same year he was charged for exposing himself to women at a Brookline t-stop.

Beyers will be held without bail until he can be evaluated by a doctor, but will be back in Brookline court on Tuesday.
