FOXBORO, Mass. (WHDH) — The Patriots suffered a big blow during the late night nail biter in Atlanta.

Vince Wilfork, the heart and soul of the team’s defense, could be sidelined for the rest of the season. The report out Monday morning was that he suffered a torn Achilles tendon.

Despite Sunday night’s win, this is not the news Patriots fans want to wake up to.

According to the Globe, Wilfork tore his Achilles tendon in his right leg and is out for the season. The injury happened early in the game. The all-pro nose tackle got hurt on Atlanta’s first drive. At first, it looked like either an ankle or foot injury. Wilfork was carted into the locker-room after being checked out on the sideline.

He was later seen in a walking boot.

Sources say that Wilfork had been struggling with the ankle problem for several games and it finally gave out in Sunday’s game against the Falcons.
