Tonight I feel like the boy who cried wolf…but it's okay if you didn't believe me before.
Please believe me now: if the projections are correct, Mitt Romney will be the Republican candidate for president.
If Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich don't know it, so be it.
Forget the "anybody but Romney" campaign…it's now nobody but Romney. He may (or may not) have all the delegates he needs before the Republican convention, but–even if he doesn't–he'll have enough to avoid a last minute move to block him. And that's why–once and for all–he is inevitable.
Rick Santorum won't concede — he's set on taking his campaign all the way to the convention, which he can do. At this point, Santorum is more a spoiler than a serious candidate, so the calls for him to quit will increase.
Santorum may ignore them, but–at some point–I hope he'll get the point, and gracefully go away.
Newt Gingrich appears to be broken–and broke. For the former speaker, South Carolina is just a memory of when he mattered, and had money.
Gingrich is now running just for himself, and that's the definition of a vanity campaign.
There are still some big states that haven't voted…including Pennsylvania, Texas, New York, and California.
So the primaries aren't over, but I believe the race for the Republican nomination is.
