Celtics introduce Stevens as official head coach

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (WHDH)-- Brad Stevens is officially on board as the 17th head coach in Celtic’s history. The team introduced the 36-year-old at a news conference in Waltham.

Stevens was Danny Ainge's first choice to succeed Doc Rivers, and the Celtics president of basketball operations had his eyes on the former Butler coach for some time.

Stevens turned down other college jobs in the past, but he said when the C's came calling he knew things would be different.

"First of all, the Boston Celtics like 'wow.’ I mean, that is an incredible feeling, it's an incredible honor, and it's certainly flattering,” Brad Stevens said. "I'm thrilled and honored to be entrusted with the honor to add to what is already a terrific organization and culture."

Stevens gets a 6-year contract and he plans to start meeting with players in the next few weeks, especially Rajon Rondo, whose game Stevens said he admires.
