BECKET, Mass. (AP) — Authorities have started searching a pond in western Massachusetts for the body of a teenager who disappeared more than 20 years ago.

The search Tuesday comes a day after authorities announced that a man serving a life sentence for killing two children is also responsible for the death 16-year-old James Lusher. The youth was last seen leaving his Westfield home for a bike ride in 1992.

Hampden District Attorney Mark Mastroianni said Lewis Lent Jr. confessed to killing Lusher and told them where to find the remains.

Massachusetts and New York State Police dive teams entered Greenwater Pond in Becket on Tuesday morning, looking for clothes, bones or anything that can be tied to the boy.

The pond is 88 square acres and up to 58 feet deep.
