WHITING, Vt. (AP) — Vermont State Police are investigating a report of the beating and stabbing of a farm worker in Whiting.

Police said 30-year-old Efrain Jimez DelaCruze arrived at a hospital emergency room in Middlebury early Thursday. WCAX-TV reports that he said he was asleep when two men hit him with metal pipes and stabbed him with a knife.

There was no robbery, and state police said they believe the incident was directed only at DelaCruze, who was treated for multiple cuts and stab wounds. Police said he also had wounds consistent with being assaulted with a blunt instrument.
