PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WHDH) — An attempted car-jacking in Providence left a mother all shook up.

“He said, I’m gonna take your baby,” said the mother.

This mother and her almost four-year-old daughter were in a parking lot Monday when a man approached the car.

“A male, about 5’8-5’10 wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, dark glasses, opened her passenger door, demanded money, reached in, attempted to take her purse. She fought him off,” said Major David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department.

Police said she was able to get her daughter out of the back seat before the man took off and nearly $4,000 in her purse.

“Broad daylight, you never know when, especially during vacation time,” said one man.

But police are optimistic about this case.

“We do expect this case to be solved,” said Lapatin.

Police found the car a few miles away.
