Police: 3 dead in RI crash with wrong-way driver

Posted: Updated:

LINCOLN, R.I. (AP) -- Rhode Island state police say three people have been killed in a crash in Lincoln.

Police say a car was traveling the wrong direction early Sunday morning and that the operator did not have a license.

The Providence Journal reported that state police identified the driver who caused the accident as 39-year-old Aldo Almanzar of North Smithfield.

Police say he was driving for more than a mile in the wrong direction before crashing into a car operated by 30-year-old Andrew Hilow of Worcester, Mass. Police say Hilow suffered serious injuries and was in stable condition Sunday morning at Rhode Island Hospital.

Hilow's two passengers both died in the crash. They were identified as Alexis Correa and Isabel Vasquez, both 22 and from Worcester.

Police are investigating if speed or alcohol were factors.
