BOSTON (WHDH) — Liz Norden is the mother of two of the marathon bombing victims. She plans on being in the court room when bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev appears for the first time.
“Unless my kids need me at home or need me for appointments, I’m not gonna miss a beat. I want to know what happened that day. I plan to be there tomorrow until the very end,” said Norden.
Her sons J.P. and Paul each lost a leg in the Marathon bombing. They are still recovering. Norden teared up just thinking about their suffering.
“I just feel I can maybe find some answers or peace of mind if I go,” she said.
Her son, J.P. said regardless of the situation, he doesn’t have hate for Tsarnaev.
“It’s so hard to hate someone you don’t know,” he said.
The public will get a first look at Dzhokhar Tsarnaev since he was found hiding in a Watertown boat. He faces 30 counts, 17 which could carry the death penalty or life in prison. His older brother Tamerlan was killed. J.P. and Paul will not attend the hearing.
“I don’t know if it will be therapeutic for her, but it’s something she wants to do,” said J.P.
He will be at yet another doctor’s appointment when Tsarnaev appears in court. His mother wants answers.
“How could someone do something to innocent people like that? I mean it doesn’t make any sense to me,” said Norden.
Victims were invited to attend the court hearing Wednesday and space has been reserved in the court room for them. Arrangements have also been made for them to watch by closed circuit TV in another part of that courthouse. Tsarnaev will be represented by the same woman that defended the Atlantic Olympic bomber and the uni-bomber. The hearing is set to begin at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon.
