    Chill Set To Melt Away

Yes it is cold but hey, no snow or sleet to scrape shovel....it's the little things. Also, we have another day of mostly sunny skies so despite the cold start to the day the numbers will reach the mid 40s by afternoon. True, those 40 degree readings fall short by 10 degrees but the strong April sunshine will add some warmth to those numbers throughout the afternoon.Friday gets the Holiday Weekend off to a bit of a slow start with a bunch of clouds (some sun too) and still a chill in the air,...[more]

Wha? Surprise snow? What was that about this morning?!? Cold air burrowed into the band of rain that was moving across Southern N. E. this morning, changing us over to snow and sleet. Thunder was even reported in some spots - a freakishly rare event on the tail end of a storm. In any event, the cold is very apparent this evening. Folks are clamoring to cover the new flower shoots and worried about the cold "burning" their lawns. Fret not. It's been shown that late-season snow can be good for l...[more]

Yup......it sure did snow/sleet overnight. Remarkable how on Monday we were chasing 80 now we talk about temps today only in the low 40s with morning wind chills in the 20s/30s. At least that sun will shine if you are outside this afternoon in that strong April sun, it will be manageable.Cold high pressure settles in this afternoon and is with us for the remainder of the week. Plan on a cold night with many cities 7 towns down into the 20s by early Thursday morning. Even downtown Boston wil...[more]

    Winds Howl, Cold Scowls

Heck of a weather day to reflect on the Marathon tragedy. If it wasn't the rain, it was the wind - all a direct result of Mother Nature feverishly moving the cold air in and the warm air out. What cold air you say? Take a look at the graphic to the right. 20s and 30s? Is this a return to winter-like cold? Yes and no. It'll be here in the short term, but we'll bounce out of it by the end of the workweek - for some even sooner. But the return trip is to normal, not 70s to near 80. If you've forg...[more]

    Windy & Humid

Moving day today for Mother Nature. She'll be moving our early summer weather---warmth and humidity--out of here and she will do it with some force. We already have clouds, drizzle showers across southern New England and we will have that for the enitre day as a cpowerful cold front races across New York state. Make sure the rain gear you have can withstand the wind. It's an issue again today as wind gusts near 40 mph are likely at any time today. It is a warm wind though with temps the enti...[more]

    Warmest Since October 7th

    Warmest Since October 7th

    Monday, April 14 2014 4:59 PM EDT2014-04-14 20:59:17 GMT
One step out the door this morning, and you knew it was going to be a warm day. In fact, with temperatures in the mid 70s in the city of Boston, it was the warmest day we've seen since October 7th. When compared to the averages, it was more like early to mid June and not mid April. I'd say the complaint department should be closed on a day like this, but I'll give in to the fact that the wind was a bit much. In fact, those powerful southerly winds gusted 40-50mph at times, almost enough to kn...[more]

    Monday Funday

Mondays typically get a bad rap but today it will grab some headlines thanks to the warm bubble of air heading this way. In fact, even as I blog our temps are already above our normal daytime high (56). Such a warm start sets us up for a warm day with many cities towns reaching the mid upper 70s. The only knock on the day would be a fiesty wind, at times, gusting near 30 mph under a partly sunny sky.Tuesday also features warmer than normal temps but not nearly as bright with mainly cloudy s...[more]

    All Over The Place

    All Over The Place

New England weather certainly can throw us a few challenges, and today, the temperatures were all over the place. As a few morning showers rode through along a front, that front slipped south a bit, allowing winds to turn northeast and hold temps in the 40s and 50s for many near and north of the Mass Pike through the early afternoon. As that front pushed back north, winds went south, and low 50s turned to near 70 through many of the western suburbs. [more]
