With lots of ups and downs in our late Spring weather, timing out the sunshine and warmth is key around here, and it looks like the timing works out just fine for us over the weekend. After picking up 1/4-3/4" of an inch of rain with yesterday's storm, rainfall is limited today to just a passing sprinkle or brief shower, in an otherwise partly sunny and dry sky. We've changed the wind direction too, and that'll allow for temps to warm into the mid 70s.[more]

Unfortunately it's not a pattern that we can just snap out of and that means only slight improvement in the weather today compared to yesterday. The difference will be temps closer to 50 versus yesterday's mid 40s, and the showers today are more of the hit and miss variety and not the consistent rain we had. The reason we have to leave those scattered showers in the forecast is thanks to an upper-level cold pocket of air (upper-level low) spinning over New England.

Spring does have some drawbacks......allergies, surprise snow showers and most often....cut-off lows in the atmosphere. These "cut-offs" are a result of our winter jet stream retreating and weakening as it migrates into Canada. As that happens, these areas of low high pressure system get "cut off" from the jet stream. The result is a very slow pattern of change. Some years New England can get positioned under these slow moving high pressure systems which gives us several sunny/warm days in A...[more]

Another comfortable April day is in the books as highs across the area topped the 70 degree mark in many towns. Sure, the breeze was a bit active and the clouds battled the sun for sky turf, but overall, that breeze and those clouds are a lot easier to handle when highs run a good 15 degrees above the average. I hope you were able to enjoy the mild weather the last couple of days, because we certainly have so changes ahead. [more]

    Another Serving of Sunshine

    Sunday, April 20 2014 6:05 PM EDT2014-04-20 22:05:21 GMT
Sunshine prevailed on this Easter Sunday with cooler temps as well. Thanks to an onshore breeze, the coastal communities chilled out near or just below 50, while inland towns warmed into the mid to upper 50s. With light winds, it was overall an enjoyable Easter Sunday to take a late afternoon stroll and try to walk of all that ham and dessert you ate. We cool to near freezing or just below tonight in the suburbs and near 40 in the city.[more]

Happy Easter! I hope the Easter egg hunts went well this morning, and the kiddos saved plenty of room for their Easter dinner. I know those chocolate bunnies, jelly beans and peeps can be awfully tempting for the little ones. Weather-wise, no problems here, lots of sunshine the next couple of days. As high pressure builds over us and just east of us this Easter Sunday, plenty of sunshine prevails. However, it'll be a cooler day with upper 50s inland and upper 40s at the coast.[more]

It seems like winter's grip just can't completely let go of us this Spring, and just as in the last couple days, we have another cool one to deal with today. Onshore winds this time of year crush the hopes and dreams of any warm-up, and today is no exception as temps hold in low 40s at the coast. Inland, we'll near 50. At times enough low level moisture works in to drag in low clouds too, most prevalent closer to the coast.[more]

As that front pushed back north, winds went south, and low 50s turned to near 70 through many of the western suburbs. [more]
